Recently in Nursery the children have been really interested in Autumn and the changes they have noticed outside.
We’ve been on a Welly Walk around school, built dens outside using tree branches, created trees and leaf people and decorated our own tree from the garden. We read the story Stick Man and next week we are going to read some Percy the Park keeper stories.
The children asked questions about the leaves changing colour and we loved the suggestion that they had been painted.
Well done everybody!
Tonight we had a lovely Christmassy evening in the Nursery outdoor area. Ark Farm brought a donkey, sheep, geese, chickens, a pigmy goat and two dogs for the children to meet and we all enjoyed some mince pies and mulled wine.
A big thank you to all those families who braved the horrible weather to join us, we loved having you and a massive thank you to the Early Years team, we couldn’t have done it without you.
On Friday we had a surprise visitor in Nursery. Elvis the Elf got lost on his way back to the North Pole and asked if he could stay with us. The children are keen to look after him and we wonder what he’ll get up to over the next couple of weeks!
After reading the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears we tried different healthy breakfast items for snack such as wholemeal toast, mini shredded wheat and berries. The children talked about what they would like to try and used skills such as scooping and spreading to make their snack themselves. We were really proud that lots of children tried a new taste such as marmite or honey and it was brilliant to see them all talking to each other and helping their friends.
We’re looking forward to the next big snack time! What would you all like to try next?
Yesterday we discovered that somebody had been into Nursery during the night and broken baby bear’s chair. The children used magnifying glasses to try and find clues and made guesses about who it might have been. Some children thought it was Goldilocks, some thought it was the teachers, a flying chocolate bar or even their brothers or sisters!
We are so proud of how confidently the children have settled into Nursery.
This week we have been busy learning about our different senses and using them to explore the world around us. We have felt objects inside feely bags (it was tricky not to peek!), guessed the scent of the ginger play dough and used telescopes and magnifying glasses to look closely at objects.
Making green slime was lots of messy fun! The children helped to measure out and mix the ingredients then used great words to describe it such as ‘gloopy’ and ‘like jelly’.
On Friday we poured different materials into cups and made shakers. We used them to play tunes around the classroom then played a guessing game on the carpet to see if anybody knew what was inside.
What a busy week!
What a fabulous start to a new year in Nursery! We had a wonderful morning exploring painting and play dough, pretending to make pizzas in the home corner and experimenting with wet sand.
The children were all so friendly towards one another and listened beautifully on the carpet. We’re all looking forward to welcoming some new friends tomorrow…
